Chiriqui borders with Bocas del Toro, the Pacific Ocean, Veraguas, and neighbouring country of Costa Rica. "Chiriqui" means "Valley of the Moon" in Guaymi language. Chiriqui is a lovely province with a diversified landscape ranging from white sand beaches, wide open plains, and up to the lush tropical rain forests mountains and some of the best national parks in Panama. Chiriqui landscape rangs from coastal plains to steep mountains, the highest being the Volcan Baru (3475 meters high). The highlands are volcanic originally and reaches the territory of the continental divide.
Boquete, Volcan and Cerro Punta are a few of the highland communities which enjoy a mild mountain climates. The abundance of rainfall makes Chiriqui one of the most productive growing regions in Panama. Chiriqui highland crops consist of oranges, coffee beans, and strawberries, There are plenty of cattle ranches and farms in the province.
River rafting on the Chiriqui and Viejo river are ideal locations for this adventurous sport. The rivers are about a one hour drive from David. Baru volcano is the head waters for these rivers. The best season for rafting on the Chiriqui river is May to December. The rest of the year you will find the Chiriqui Viejo river to be the better river for rafting.
The community of David is the third largest city in Panama. The town center is known as Barrio Bolivar and home of the St. Joseph Cathedral. It is a colonial community and it's main attractions are the Jose de Obaldia History and Art Museum. David is one of the favourite destinations for expats looking relocate in Panama.
