Gulf of Panama Fishing - Pinas Bay

The many volcanic islands in the Gulf of Panama make for great off-shore and deep sea fishing. From December-May the waters around the Pearl Islands (Las Perlas) are flooded with pargo (red snapper), mero (grouper) and amberjack. Because of the drop in Ocean temperatures during these months bottom fish come to the surface and can be caught with lures. The outer islands contain large jack, tuna, wahoo and sailfish

150 miles south of Panama City you will find the area world renown for it's spectacular fishing called Pinas Bay - In season (January-March), Pinas Bay is arguably the best place in the world for the Black Marlin. There is also great inshore fishing for wahoo, jack and dorado. Over 180 world records have been set or broken in Pinas.

Tarpon & Snook fishing in Panama

Fishing for Giant Tarpon and Snook is also a world-class sport in Panama. There are few charter companies experienced enough to fish for the elusive and difficult to hook Giant Tarpon - which can weight as much as 200 pounds! The Bayano River in Darien provides the perfect climate for both these fish. The high tides from the Pacific mingling with the fresh water from the Bayana River provide the best feeding place for these species of sport fish. Fly-fishing is a popular past time for fishermen - but only the best can land a prize winning Giant Tarpon!
