Cerro Hoya National Park was set up in 1985. Located at the south end of the province of Veraguas, it has the highest peak in the mountainous range Azuero cresting at 1.559 meters. It is primarily volcanic, and it's climate ranges drastically from the seaside to the mountain peaks.

 

Cerro Hoya National Park has a diverse ecosystem - moist tropical rainforest at the coastal levels and low mountain rainforest at it's top. There are a recorded 95 species of birds located here including the threatened scarlet macaw. The panther can also be found here.

LOCATION: the park lies at the south-western end of the Azuero Peninsula above the Pacific coast of Panama in the provinces of Veraguas and los Santos, 350 kilometers by road from Panama City.

ACCESS: Located in a remote and inaccessible part of the Azuero Peninsula. Access is possible by vehicle as far as Tonosì and the Restingue area. It is also accessible by sea from the ports of Los Buzos in Tonosì and from Restingue in Montijo.

FACILITIES: the park has two administrative centers, one in Tonosì, Los Santos Provence, and the other in the Restingue area of Veraguas Province. There are two ranger stations in the protected area.

ACCOMMODATION: available in the towns of Las Tablas and Tonosì.
