Cerro Hoya National Park - Panama

Panama -Sarigua National Park

Sarigua National Park This 8000 hectare park was created in 1985. Consisting of mangrove swamps, coastal zones and completely deforested areas it is located in the Herrera Province. Sarigua National Park lies along a Pacific coastal strip between the mouths of the Santa Maria River and the River Parita. The park protects an area known as 'albina', a completely deforested area that was ruined in the second half of the 20 century by colonists.

The park's coastal forests were totally destroyed to make way for grazing land, leaving poor acid soils exposed to the erosion caused by strong winds, winter rains and the tide of the Pacific Ocean.

LOCATION: The Park is located 239 kilometers by road from Panama City in the Province of Herrea on Parita Bay.

ACCESS: The park can be accessed by road through the towns of Santa Maria and Parita. The protected area can also be reached by boat.
